Competition Procedure
Applications
Applications will be sent to all A/L schools in Sri Lanka inviting them to participate in the competition Sri Lanka Genius 2008. A sample application is also available in this web site.
Only 1000 applications will be accepted for the competition on first come first served and district quota basis. Schools are advised to apply as soon as possible since limited number of applications will be accepted.
Only one team from each school consisting of four participants is allowed to participate in the competition. Applied team should consist of the students who are currently studying in grade 9 - 12 in the relevant school.
The closing date for applications is 24th of April 2008. All the late applications will be rejected.
First Round
First Round Exam (District Level) will be held in all the districts in selected venues, which would be notified with the admission letter. Following is the composition of the first round exam paper.
- Multiple choice, paper based exam with 50 or 60 questions
- Information Technology - 20%
- IQ based questions - 40%
- General Knowledge - 40%
Note: Because of the prevailing situation of the country only one examination centre will be conducted for all the districts in the Northern Province.
1000 students will be selected from the First Round Exam as,
- 200 schools(800 students)1
- Best 200 losers (8 individual students from each district)
9 workshops will be conducted in 9 provinces after First Round Exam and selected students will be directed to workshops to gather more knowledge in IT.
Second Round
Second Round Exam (Province Level) will be held in all the provinces in selected venues, which would be notified as requires.
- Multiple choice, paper based exam with 50 or 60 questions
- Information Technology - 60%
- IQ based questions - 20%
- General Knowledge - 20%
128 students will be selected from the Second Round Exam as,
- 18 schools (72 students)1
- Best 56 losers (5 students from each province, 11 based on island rank)
A staying in workshop will be conducted in Colombo after Second Round Exam for the selected students to further more enhance their knowledge in IT.
The winners of the provincial round will approach the TV Round2 as individuals who would compete with one another to be crowned as the “Sri Lanka Genius 2008”.
