The IT Quiz 2006 was a great effort, a successful one which took the ICT knowledge of the general public of Sri Lanka to new heights.

Thanking to the IT Quiz 2006 crew, we, a bunch of enthusiastic students are hoping to launch the second part of the IT Quiz with new attitudes, new looks and most specially with a new name.

Vision

Our vision is to provide school children with a pathway to the latest technologies and improve their knowledge of information and communication technology while creating a true Sri Lankan identity for a future ICT intellect with the name of “Sri Lanka Genius”.

Mission

Every Sri Lankan has benefited from free education system at some point or another. But as university students we are awarded a privilege only few are chosen into. We are enjoying the tears and sweat of Sri Lankan working force. As the ripped fruits of Sri Lankan Education system, we thought it is our time to do something for the children of the parents, who shouldered the weight of educating us.

So we thought of making an effort to enhance the IT knowledge of the school children of Sri Lanka. The students of the University of Colombo School of Computing, with the helping hand of Dialog Telekom PLC, take pride in organizing an All Island quiz competition under the patronage of UCSC administration. This program will primarily be launched with the intention of minimizing the imbalance of IT knowledge among the Sri Lankan teenagers coming from highly diverse backgrounds.

Objectives

  • To make an impact on the discrepancy of the distribution of ICT knowledge and IT resources in the country.
  • To lift up the society´s acceptance on IT field as a field which stands neck to neck with the fields such as engineering and medicine.
  • To create distinguish personalities from the participant as potential experts in the future ICT field of Sri Lanka.
  • To completely change the meaning of the word “Genius”, by the end of year 2008.
