Software Development Unit of University of Colombo School of Computing had its humble beginnings to produce low cost software with appropriate and effective technology for the public sector of the government of Sri Lanka. SDU developed its own philosophy on building software for the public sector creating close relationships with its clients. At present, SDU undertakes in addition to Software Development network design and implementation, Network Security Implementation, Web site development, and Tender Evaluation etc. Software Development Unit of UCSC had begun applied research into deployment of software in local languages, wireless technology such as CDMA, and WI-FI, MESH, and bluetooth and Software Engineering. |
| Software Development Unit had, out of its extensive research into producing software, developed an Application Development Framework which is still in Beta enabling it to produce software in a shorter development cycle. |
| Although SDU began its life to cater to the public sector, it at present, serves NGOs as well as private companies. |
