M.Sc in STATISTICS
This programme was offerred for many years by the Department of Statistics and Computer Science until it was handed over to its successor the Department of Statictics in 2001.
Objective:The main objective of the course is to produce applied statisticians able to formulate research literature in a broad range of applications. The course has been found necessary because in many institutions in Sri Lanka, raw graduates are recruited as research assistants, officers, statisticians, or statistical officers, and have little practical experience in the use of statistics. The course is designed to provide training to these persons, as well as to those engaged in any other work where such training is important.
The course emphasizes practical work involving real data analysis which would give the students a measure of confidence in handling real-life situations.
